Why the church should STOP the use of NDAs. Who benefits? Who decides?

Uphold

Never heard of NDAs (Non-Disclosure Agreements)? What are they? What is their intended function and why are they so damaging if they are used in the wrong context?

NDAs are intended as a legal tool to protect trade secrets. Using an NDA in a context where the protection of trade secrets does not apply constitutes a significant misuse of the NDA itself. In addition, using an NDA in a way which affords protection to perpetrators of bullying and abuse causes harm to victims of abuse and whistle blowers. When NDAs are used to legally bind someone to silence (or to buy their silence with financial payouts) victims are unable to share their experiences, even with people they trust. Instead, they suffer alone subjecting them to further harm.

There is NO place for the use of NDAs in churches and christian organisations. To continue to use them in this context constitutes abuse.

Ask the question WHO do NDAs help? Who benefits? Who decides?
