Advocate

Advocacy work is an important aspect of our ministry. Our advocacy may be personal as we work on individual cases, but we also call on churches, organisations and institutions to review their policies and procedures, to create safe working environments for the people under their care, and to uphold the biblical standards for Christian leadership. We believe churches and  Christian organisations must take their legal obligations seriously and go the extra mile to care for vulnerable people. Turning a blind eye to abuse is not an option for those who follow Jesus.

There is a lot of work to be done! We are currently working on submissions to revise the Sydney Anglican Diocese's Ministry Standards Ordinance so that it affords both effective protections for victims and disciplinary sanctions where appropriate. We are also advocating for the eradication of policies allowing for the signing of Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) during employment termination proceedings, which can put abuse victims at risk.
